Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At Twinkling Stars Early Childhood Center, we follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, which outlines seven key areas of learning and development. These areas are essential for fostering the holistic growth of each child, helping them to reach their full potential. Here is a closer look at each area:
Personal, Social, and Emotional Development (PSED)
This area helps children to develop self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills and self-esteem. We encourage play based activities which help children to recognize and name their feelings, manage emotions and behaviors, build friendships, share, and cooperate with peers and develop confidence and independence.
Communication and Language (CL)
This area assists children in developing communication and language development, listening and attention, understanding, speaking and vocabulary building which are crucial for effective interaction and learning, following instructions and engaging in conversations, comprehending language and responding appropriately, expressing thoughts, ideas, and feelings clearly and expanding word knowledge and usage.
Physical Development (PD)
This area explores physical development which encompasses both gross and fine motor skills, contributing to overall health and coordination, Also, health and self-care. It consists of activities that involve physical movements, such as running, jumping, hand-eye coordination and dexterity used in tasks like drawing, cutting, manipulating small objects, understanding personal hygiene, and making healthy lifestyle choices.
Literacy (L)
Literacy development focuses on skills related to reading and writing and phonics. It includes activities like enjoying and understanding stories, recognizing letters, and developing early reading skills, experimenting with mark-making, forming letters, and writing simple words & understanding the relationship between sounds and letters.
Mathematics (M)
Mathematics development introduces children to basic concepts and problem-solving skills. This area includes numbers, patterns, shape, space, and measures. The activities emphasize on counting, recognizing numerals and shapes, and understanding simple addition, subtraction, and spatial relationships. It also focuses on measuring objects identifying and creating patterns in their environment.
Understanding the World (UTW)
Understanding the world helps children explore and make sense of their surroundings. This area covers people, communities, world and technology. The activities prioritize learning about diverse cultures, family structures, community roles, exploring nature, different environments, and understanding the world around them. Also, Using and understanding various technological tools and devices.
Expressive Arts and Design (EAD)
Expressive arts and design encourage creativity and self-expression. This area includes exploring and using media and materials, being imaginative, music and movement. The main highlights of the activities are experimenting with different art materials, textures, tools, engaging in imaginative play, creating stories, and expressing ideas through art and drama. Also, enjoying and creating music, dancing, and rhythmic activities.
Each of these areas is interrelated and supports a child’s overall development. At Twinkling Stars, we provide a variety of activities and experiences designed to engage children in all seven areas, ensuring a well-rounded and enriching educational experience.
